Breaking the dull and
grey-suited stereotype
Normally when people think of accountants, they think of boring people who show little emotion. This stereotype cannot be further from the truth when you meet director and partner Marie van der Walt at RVN Chartered Accountants Incorporated. Marie is known for her warmth, compassion, and welcoming personality, and she has been referred to as the glue that keeps RVN together.
When Marie decided to study accounting, she was determined to follow in her father’s footsteps. As one of the founders of RVN, he had always been an exceptional example of a hardworking man with a mind for business. He was also a well-known chartered accountant in Southern Africa.
After completing her CA qualification in 2002, she worked her way up the career ladder and was later appointed as a partner at RVN in 2003. Taking over the reins from her father in 2018 was no easy task but, with her fierce commitment to her field and the firm, she quickly and easily mastered this task.
Marie is also putting effort into introducing diversity in the South African accounting industry. She wants to enable people, no matter their race and gender, to understand the workings of the financial world. Her incredible work ethic means that work never stops. She puts this down to her need for perfection and the fact that she genuinely enjoys what she does.
One of her many strengths is to keep the firm committed to its basic principle, which is to address challenges by identifying their causes. Her knack for simplifying processes and finding efficient solutions makes her an indispensable member of the team. Marie’s experience in financial reporting, taxation, auditing, forensic accounting, corporate finance, and insolvency ensures that she is a trusted advisor to all our clients.
